The contractor I hired to replace my old rotting fence showed up today and tore it down. It opened up this vista into the rather rough and neglected property of my neighbor’s side yard.

Wow, this looks terrible.
I wasn’t surprised by the junk as much as I was by the tree. I guess I didn’t realize that it was really planted right up against the fence and that at least half of its root mass is on my side of the property. My compost bins are right on top of them, fertilizing them constantly. It made me reflect on how arbitrary are the boundaries we create sometimes.
