Observations on plants and gardening from the Great Basin steppe in the American West.
I&P has a new look! I hope you like this new tiling format; I wanted it to be easier for you to view and access the blog's content. Newer posts will always appear at the top of the page. Clicking on a post's icon—pencil, link, video, etc.—will expand the comment box and other features for that post. Clicking on a photo icon will give you a better look at photos in smaller posts.
Along the bottom of the page is a navigation bar with links to the blog's archive, RSS feed, post randomizer, and one for those who would just like to ask me a question about anything. If you get mired in something while wandering, clicking on the Penstemon barbatus 'Elfin Pink' will return you the homepage.

It wasn’t that long ago it seems that I said I was too busy to participate in any other social networking beyond this blog and Twitter, specifically giving a pass to Facebook. And now look, I’ve gone and signed up for Google+.
I don’t feel hypocritical about the move, though. One briefly mentioned but major reason for avoiding Facebook is that I like to keep my private life private. As much as I like and respect my blog readers, I don’t feel comfortable sharing pictures from my children’s birthday parties with you. I’m also a multi-faceted person; gardening is not my life. As much as you may like my mutterings about my gardening and all things horticultural, I’m not going to inflict you with my other esoteric interests.
When I heard that Google+ allowed me to compartmentalize my life, I abandoned my personal Facebook account as best I could (though not completely) and moved over. Has anyone else been thinking about switching? If you have moved over already, what are your impressions of the new network?
